I love that we can find live music playing just about anywhere on any given evening in this city. I especially love it when the live music is paired up with a kid friendly atmosphere too. This locale had a little playground for the kids and then the music of course. It made for relaxing and modified dinner date night for Omar and I. And that's always nice.
Ever done this?. It's a great free kid's building workshop offered at Lowe's. The girls loved it and were so proud after completing their school buses.
After a while of hard work Marisa preferred to have some cookies.
Well this day came faster than we anticipated particularly because we didn't expect Elena to attend full day, everyday, public Pre-Kinder at 4 years old. It's a tuition based program offered at the district here, and we are thrilled about the opportunity, but still the house is quiet and I'm remembering the days of having just one child at home. I admit, I do miss having her around and listening to her play with her sister. I guess this is what parenting is all about--letting your child go.
I really wanted to get the song Daughters by Greg Brown on the blog but I have no idea how. Anyway, when we lived in Sonoma a co-worker gave the teaching staff a CD of music he enjoyed listening to as a thank you for donating money toward the purchase of a new guitar that was stolen at the school. Omar and I enjoyed this CD and Omar particulary liked the song Daughters by Greg Brown and sensed he would be the Dad in the song one day. We had no kids then. Here are the lyrics. Read it or watch this video version of it danced at a wedding by a dad and daugther, it will reveal something.
Daughters by Greg Brown
One is long and one is short, One is thin and one is stout. In the morning when they wake, Only one's breakfast can I make.
One dances and knows how many squares hopscotch ought to have. One goes wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, ha ha, wah wah.
One won't eat anything much, I guess she lives on air and sun and noodles. One's beginnin' to learn that the milk is over there inside of that shirt beneath the blue eyes of the woman I love.
refrain: I'm a man who's rich in daughters, And if by some wild chance I get rich in money, Like say another two thou a year or even one thou a year, I'm gonna look in to havin' some more daughters.
When my daughter who is tall now was not so tall, One night we were drivin' home in the truck and I was sad because I was busted and disgusted, And she looked out the window and said, "Dad, the moon is comin' home with us." She said, "Dad, the moon is comin' home with us."
refrain
And in the morning they magic the house, The one that can walk, walks in warm and still dreamin' to give me a hug or ask why it's so cold or why is there school, "Why's it so cold?" or "Why is there school?" And the one who can't walk or talk yet just lies in bed and laughs, She just lies in bed and laughs.
