Christmas 2011

We decided to stay home for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning this year. We wanted to celebrate at home since last year I was in labor Christmas Eve and we were in the hospital on Christmas Day. We recalled how last year we set out all the presents after Christmas Eve mass. I had been having contractions that entire day and we thought, "just in case." We have no memories of the girls waking up excitedly on the Christmas morning in 2010. Of course we were incredibly blessed with the best Christmas present ever, but we thought it more special if we are at home this time. Anyway, on Christmas Eve we had my cousin and her family over for dinner. It had been a while since I hosted a holiday. It was nice and relaxing being home with our girls and we really enjoyed hosting. Omar was cooking up a storm most of the day while we listened to Christmas music and I kept the girls occupied.

On Christmas morning the big girls opened their presents while Karina slept in. After the girls played some we headed for mass. When we arrived at home we got our luggage together and headed for Laredo.

The plan was to celebrate Karina's 1st birthday in Laredo. This inevitably and distinctly separated Christmas and her birthday. My mom was ready for Karina's birthday celebration with a bright Big Bird cake that was perfectly fitting for a toddler. You can see Karina's birthday celebration pictures on her birthday post here.

The rest of our time in Laredo, we spent catching up with my sisters and brothers. We mostly relaxed and enjoyed a little time off which parents/grandparents always provide when they so perfectly entertain their grandchildren. Omar and I even had a couple of dates. We also took many trips to different parks in what most of the country would call spring weather. It was perfect!

Birthday Girl off to Laredo!
